USATF Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships

The USATF Montana Association is excited to announce that the USA Track & Field Junior Olympic track & field championship circuit for Montana athletes takes on a special look for the 2016 outdoor season.

For the first time in some years the National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships will be held in the western part of the country in Sacramento, CA on July 25-31, 2016.  As a result, the USATF Montana Association has work hard set the dates as early as possible for the Montana Association and Region 11 Junior Olympic track & field championships.

The USATF Montana Association Junior Olympic track & field championships will be held at the Charlie Merrifield Stadium in Butte, Montana on June 10-11, 2016.  The Region 11 Junior Olympic

championships for Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming are scheduled to be hosted at the MSU Bobcat track & field complex in Bozeman, Montana on June 23-25, 2016.

Youth competitions typically take place in two-year age divisions. These age divisions provide young athletes the opportunity to compete with other athletes of similar ability.

The age divisions for competition year 2016 are as follows:

8 & Under 2008+*

9 - 10 2006-2007

11 - 12 2004-2005

13 - 14 2002-2003

15 - 16 2000-2001

17 - 18 1998-1999**

* Per USATF Rule 300.1 (c) "Athletes must be at least seven (7) years of age on December 31 of the current year to compete at the Youth Athletics or Junior Olympic National Championships."

** Athletes who are still 18 through the final day of the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships are eligible to compete in the 17-18 age division through that meet. This extended eligibility does not apply to cross country events.
